Rise : Vision

From 5 to 7pm on Sunday, August 28th in the Social Room at FUMC McAllen. Worship led by Brent Phillips.

Rise:Vision will outline new directions in our youth ministry, update you about existing elements, and handle some nuts & bolts issues. This will be a crucial meeting for both youth and their parents to attend. We will cover the following:

 Our Vision Statement and what it means
 Core values that guide our planning and decision-making
 Changes to weekly activities and what they are called
 How to stay on top of what is happening each week
 Planned calendar for the Fall, Spring, and Summer
 Transportation questions/issues
 Opportunities to serve for both parents and youth
 Event Registration & Release Forms (a notary will be present)
 Southwest Texas Conference of the UMC Events
 Confirmation Exploration

Rise: Service

**Update**

If you want to hang out in the Game Room at the church after serving at the Food Pantry, we will do that until 7:00 p.m.

I know school starts on Monday, but don't forget that there is NO Praise Bash on Saturday, and that Sunday is Rise:Service!! We will meet at FUMC at 2:45 p.m. to go serve at the food pantry, & will return at 6:00 p.m. See you there!

Creativity and Clean Part 2

Super High Five to everyone who helped out yesterday at Rise: Creativity and Clean! You guys are awesome! Last night, you decided we should continue our projects on Tuesday (tomorrow). So here's the plan:

Come to the church at 11am
Bring your own lunch with you
Make sure to wear clothes that can get dirty.
Get picked up at around 3pm.

Rise: Creativity and Clean

Hey Everyone! Don't forget that there is Rise tomorrow night from 5 to 7p.m. at FUMC McAllen! Make sure you bring some clothes that can get dirty and some things to get creative with - your choice! Why? I'll tell you... In case you haven't noticed, our youth spaces need some work - they don't look very clean or put together right now and are full of projects waiting to be completed - so let's make it nice together. Some of you who have done some of this already, let's finish what we've started and begin the school year with something to be proud of, mmmkay?

So what will we do? How will you contribute? Here's a list of some things that need to get done:

Reworking bulletin boards.
Finishing the HopeRevo station.
Putting together our Mix CD Creation Station.
Painting a ton of our furniture.
Hanging out with awesome people.
Making collages out of some of our pictures from this past year's events to hang on the walls.
Decorating chalkboards, and dry erase boards with important information and art.
Listening to music really loud.
Sorting through games and such.
Getting rid of trash.
Laughing a whole lot.
Enjoy dinner together.
Rearranging furniture.

All of these things need to get started/finished so we can welcome our incoming 6th graders to our spaces, plus it will help us to enjoy it a little more ourselves! :)

So! Bring your markers, crayons, worship CDs, muscles, hammers, nails, colored chalk, screwdrivers, masking tape, newspaper, drop cloths, and paintbrushes to Rise tomorrow and we'll do a makeover in 2 hours that folks will be talking about for years! You can even bring your parents -we need the help! See you tomorrow at 5pm and be ready to hit the ground running!

We're packing Backpacks!

Hey everyone! Don't forget that we are packing backpacks full of school supplies to give to our brothers & sisters in Mexico, just a few miles away from where we live. You don't want to miss out on this opportunity to serve so many young children in such an important way! Rise: Play - Pool Party x 2

Just a reminder that Rise: Play is tomorrow night!

We are having a Pool Party x 2 at the Morgan's House - so come ready to swim and play some pool.

Please arrive at the Morgan's at 5 p.m. We will wrap up around 7 p.m. (just like you're used to on a Rise: Play night).

It takes about 20 minutes to get to their house from the church. (Because it is a little way out, parents are welcome to stay) You are responsible for arranging your own transportation there - if you cannot be dropped off, or cannot find a ride with someone else, please call/text me so I can help with that. :)

RISE: Service

I'd like to take a moment to remind you all that RISE:Service (Food Pantry) is still on for this Sunday from 2:45 to 6:00 p.m. Many of us will be on our way to Quest Camp, so it is REALLY important that you go help if you are in town. We hate to miss, but we know that you can handle it! Make us proud! Please meet Mrs. Corso, Mrs. Potes, & Mrs. Hellums at the church at 2:45 so you don't miss out on the opportunity to serve!

RISE: God in the Movies Special Event & Quest Camp

RISE: God in the Movies Special Event Information

On Friday July 15th, we will begin showing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 upstairs in room 206 at FUMC McAllen at 12:00 p.m. (Noon). You may arrive at the church as early as 11:30 a.m. so you are there in time for the beginning of the movie. Please bring your own snacks, drinks, lunch, etc. to this first part of our God in the Movies Special Event.

After we are finished watching Part 1 at the church, we will head to the movie theater around the corner from the church (Movies 17) and catch the 3:05 p.m. showing of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. You will be responsible for buying any concessions you want at the theater.

The cutoff time for signing up to go is Noon on Thursday.

If you do not sign up by then, you will not have a ticket for this segment of the day. The cost is $7 per ticket which you can bring to me on Friday (if you sign up and do not attend, you will still be responsible for the $7 cost of the ticket).

Following the end of the movie at the theater, we will walk to Gatti's to eat dinner (you are responsible for this cost) and discuss the movies. We should be finished no later than 7:00 p.m. (you can contact your parents from Gatti's to pick you up if we finish earlier.)

Please note that you cannot attend the God in the Movies Special Event if you do not attend the discussion portion afterward - that's the whole point.

Quest Camp Information

If you are attending Quest Camp, be at FUMC McAllen by 10:50 a.m. on Sunday Morning, July 17th. DO NOT UNLOAD YOUR LUGGAGE at that time. We will be attending the first portion of the 11:00 a.m. worship service together and will be sent out and prayed for by the congregation during that time. When this is done, we will proceed outside to load and head out of town. Please bring a lunch with you, and enough $$ for dinner on Sunday night and Lunch on Thursday afternoon. Return time is approximately 6:30pm on Thursday evening, July 21st. We will call from Falfurrias to give parents a heads up.

What to bring:
A good attitude, 1 Bag with clothes for all days of camp (in addition to what you will be wearing) - remember to pack for theme nights! , toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, $$ for two meals (one going there, and one coming back), snack money, sleeping bag or sheets and blanket, pillow, towel for showering, medications (they will be turned into the nurse upon arrival), your Bible. Remember not to bring too many bags!

What not to bring:
Anything you don’t want stolen, negativity, revealing clothes (if you don’t know what that means, ask your mom or dad), anything prohibited on the camp flyer.

Rise: Worship Tonight

Hey Everyone!

Just a reminder that Rise: Worship is tonight! We will be joining our brothers and sisters from La Trinidad UMC and Trinity UMC in their cooperative ministry effort and worship at The Bridge. The Bridge takes place at Trinity UMC in McAllen near Morris Middle School (1801 Trenton Rd., McAllen, TX 78504). Worship begins at 6:00p.m. and will end around 7:30ish p.m. Call me if you have any questions!

Instructions for River Camp

If you are attending River Camp, please meet at FUMC McAllen at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday Morning, July 3rd. You must be prompt if we are to make it to Harlingen on time to catch the District charter bus (The bus leaves the Texas Tourist Center in Harlingen located at the intersection of Highway 77 & Highway 83 at 10:00 a.m). Lunch (Whataburger) and dinner on Sunday, July 3rd will be furnished to campers and also lunch coming home on July 7th. We estimate that the Charter bus will return to Harlingen between 6:00 & 7:30 p.m. on July 7th. We will call when we get closer to Harlingen to give you an arrival time.

Calendar Misprint - There is NO Rise on Sunday June 26th

Sorry for the inconvenience, but there was a misprint on the Summer Calendar postcard! There is no Rise on Sunday Evening June 26th. Rise will return on July 10th with Rise: Worship after JAM camp and River Camp are finished. Let me know if you have any questions!
